Surveys.

Annual Salary Survey: This survey, sponsored annually, covers base and incentive pay for multiple levels of customer-facing personnel in field sales, service, and marketing. Data also is reported on pay practices and mix of base and incentive compensation. Pearl Meyer & Partners is the survey contractor.

In addition to reporting accurate and comprehensive compensation information such as base salary, incentive eligibility and pay, and bonus compensation for each position, the survey contains a wealth of valuable information such as the mix of base and incentive pay, compensation practices and salary administration.

In response to several requests that additional positions be added to the survey, ALSSA and Pearl Meyer & Partners will combine Pearl Meyer & Partners' professional and managerial total compensation survey and the customer-focused sales and service positions into one survey, beginning with the survey that will be conducted in early 2010. As has been the case with the sales survey, ALSSA members' aggregated information will be reported in a separate cut of the data.

ALSSA expects to pay 100 percent of the participation fee for its members in the 2010 survey however; companies must participate in the annual survey in order to receive the final results.

NOTE: These reports are available only to participants through the contractor.

Regarding the surveys, the contractor for the annual salary survey, Pearl Meyer & Partners, distributes copies of the survey results to participants.  Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of the survey results should contact Ken Cardinal at:

Financial Survey: This survey is done every 3-4 years. The most recent survey covered 2005-2007 and was published in September, 2008. The survey results allow participants to benchmark their financial and operations performance against industry averages. Among other things, the survey contains an operating statement stated as percent of total sales. Several items that together make up sales, general and administrative expenses, typically aggregated in public reports, are broken out and reported. In addition, several operations ratios, percent of employees by function, and twenty-nine questions such as the amounts spent on IP and IT and a breakdown of sales by channels are included.
