Alexandria, VA (May 2, 2011) — Michael Duff, President of ALSSA, The Analytical & Life Science Systems Association, today announced that the ALSSA Board of Directors has extended the scope of ALSSA to include diagnostics and to recruit molecular diagnostics companies to membership in the association.
Mr. Duff said that ALSSA’s focus will be on molecular diagnostics, including companion diagnostics and emerging/next generation in vitro diagnostic technologies.
Noting that molecular diagnostics is an important emerging market with the potential for big and sustained growth over the next several years. Mr. Duff said that several current members of ALSSA have business in the molecular diagnostics space and many molecular diagnostic companies tie to the technologies supplied by ALSSA members making it a natural extension. Further, molecular diagnostics companies have many common interests and objectives with members of ALSSA and the ALSSA Board believes each group would benefit from contacts with the other.
Further noting that technology is the link between members of ALSSA and the molecular diagnostics industry, Mr. Duff said that “we believe no other organization offers molecular diagnostics companies the access ALSSA would to the major analytical and life science platform technology companies, along with the opportunity to network with the senior executives in those companies and to understand how technology platforms are evolving.”
Mr. Duff also said that ALSSA will not compete with other associations and groups that are active in the diagnostics area, commenting “the value they offer is different from what ALSSA would provide. Our focus and value proposition are on the technologies and markets in molecular diagnostics, and on moving novel technologies into molecular diagnostics, on facilitating networking with other senior executives, and on providing meetings and industry-specific information that will help companies in that space to better manage and grow their business.”
